Generic Valtrex

Generic Valtrex (Valacyclovir) is used for treating shingles (herpes zoster), cold sores (fever blisters or herpes labialis), and treating or suppressing genital herpes in patients with normal immune systems. It is also used to suppress genital herpes in patients with HIV infection.

Valacyclovir is an antiviral agent. It is used to treat herpes zoster infection (shingles), genital herpes infection and cold sores. This medicine is not a cure. It will help the sores heal faster. It can also be used to suppress genital herpes infection. This medicine, in combination with safer sex practices, may reduce the risk of spreading herpes infection, but even with therapy, it is still possible to pass herpes infection on to your partner.


How to Take Valtrex?
Take Valacyclovir medicine by mouth with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor or health care professional even if you think your condition is better. Do not stop taking except on the advice of your doctor or health care professional.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. While this drug may be prescribed for children as young as 2 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.


Side Effects of Valtrex :-
Nausea, vomiting, headache, loss of appetite, weakness, stomach pain or dizziness may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if your condition does not appear to improve or you experience a worsening of symptoms while taking Valtrex.


What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions :-
  • kidney disease
  • bone marrow or kidney transplant
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding
  • acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)
  • any other condition that may weaken the immune system
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to valacyclovir, acyclovir, ganciclovir, valganciclovir, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives

Valtrex Precautions :-
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including cimetidine or probenecid.

Tell your doctor if you have any kidney disease, blood disorders or if you have any allergies. Valtrex medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding.
